Alpari Contest - Interview with Champions
In 2009, "Jackpot" was held in a different format, but this did not stop Dmitry from Ekaterinburg from winning the grand prize: a PAMM-account with 50,000 as Manager's Capital! Unfortunately, Dmitry did not agree to share his secrets, but he answered a few of our questions, which you can find below in our interview with the 2009 champion.
1. Dmitry, please tell us how you started working on the Forex market and developed your enthusiasm for trading.
Trading on financial markets has always been interesting to me, but above all, their seemingly inaccessible potential was what drew me in. My introduction to the market began in 2005 when I started trading on the Moscow Central Stock Exchange. I was attracted to Forex because of its liquidity and the ability to leave your trading methods unaltered when there is an increase in volume.
2. Please tell us about your education. Does it have something to do with finance?
I have a technical degree that is in no way related to finance.
3. Have you had any long periods of bad luck when you told yourself, "That's it, I'm quitting"?
There was a long unsuccessful period right from the get-go. But I never thought about quitting. Initially, it was because I wasn't committed to trading. Later, I made the commitment, understood what I had gotten myself into and never doubted my abilities again.
4. What can you suggest to traders who are trying to master the market and have run into some hard luck?
Lower your trading volume or don't trade at all. Take time to assess the situation.
5. Do you trade with the help of Expert Advisors or manually?
I trade manually.
6. Dmitry, can you tell us a bit about your trading strategy or strategies?
I trade throughout the course of a day, sometimes leaving a position open overnight. I use two strategies. One works for competitive trading with small modifications (explained with methods of index calculation): making short deals within the course of a day. In fact, I only use that one strategy on the contest account.
7. Do you use graphic analysis, such as support and resistance levels?
I only use a selection of indicators. And naturally, I read the news that comes out. I don't use the support and resistance levels as a basis for making a decision. I also don't use any analytics or prognoses.
8. What advice can you give novice traders?
Beginners should rush to trade with real money (significant sums). Don't make emotional decisions and realize that you can find the reason for all your problems within yourself. Generally, common truths for success: discipline, planning, using a journal, statistics, and analysis.
9. Do you have something you'd like to wish our investors and managers?
Good luck.
